How does this sound...

- OpenBSD as a replacement for FreeBSD. Its built for security applications and the latest kernel
should run faster than fbsd 5.x
- Move to PHP5, as its support for OO is very good.
- Change the core to a modular based system

Maybe its not enough of a change? Were you thinking something more extream?
