oh.. about the question of different flavours of ROM's I'd add if
you's like something lika a ROMKitchen (see:
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/ for an XDA example) it's something like
that: you check all packages you want, click 'cook' and voilà! a
custom ROM for your need with ONLY what you really need!

You see... really nice modularity needed for that :)
