I'm looking for an alternative way of executing mdconfig with Apache
using php. Currently, I have a shell script executed by cron, that will
run the command for me, however this is a little slow for my intentions.
Rather than re-invent the wheel, anyone have any helpful ideas?

This will be implemented in a web-based m0n0wall image generator that is
nearly complete.
