Yes, I'm sure its possible. The closest I've personally come to this was
using dd-wrt (www.dd-wrt.com) which is a close relative of OpenWRT. It
worked on both v4 and v3 WRT54G hardware against m0n0wall running on a
Wrap box (possibly also a Soekris 4501, can't remember exactly). Most
likely this was using a Prism (Senao) card. I think I was using version
v23 of dd-wrt.
