Any sufficiently descent email client can search by keywords, and flag
messages as needed. I have all my emails sorted by list, then certain
keywords will put key messages in my inbox. That way, I only need to look
into various email folders for other stuff I might be interested in.
I never did get this forum idea. You have to have a web browser going, big
pain at times. Sometimes I can only ssh in, and have to use Mutt. Try
reading a forum with lynx! It can be done, not a slam against lynx, but it's
for more difficult than reading an email. Plus I have an offline copy of
everything from the list, I can store important messages and not have to use
the list archives...
There's plenty of reasons why a simple listserv is better than a web forum.
