I agree that upgrading the CF of older 64MB boards is OK,
but it has to be clear that there should be an option to stick with their
fixed memory, maybe with some reduced functionality (not all the functions
at the same time). If the embedded version of M0n0wall still works with
these 64MB boards and the more modern Wifi-cards on a small footprint, it
will be really great!

Ditto.  We have at least 10 units deployed, most with 8MB cards and many
with 64MB RAM, but it would be worth the pain of climbing on rooftops
and physically replacing the CF to get the new (more stable) radio
functionality and more room for future growth.
