Solution found for my problem, at least.
When connecting a null modem cable, $12 they now cost... the horror!
Anyway, I get "Read error"
My Soekris 4801 was running BIOS 1.21 and I updated to 1.28 (apparently
I missed a few memos.) After setting the BootDrive to 80 and the BIOS
to 9600bps to support the terminal of the new version of m0n0 it works
great. CF boots just fine, as does 1.3b1 and the atheros card works great.
Knowing all of this I will now image my production box, after setting
this one back one version and prepping the config just in case, and will
start testing VPN and traffic shaping etc.
