Yeah, that worked fine on the 4801 in 6.x, I think there was some sort
of issue with it in FreeBSD 7.x. It was later removed from pfSense,
and I don't recall the reasons offhand. One of them was it was 4801
only, and I believe it had some sort of problem.
It would be great to have something that supported a wide range of
hardware without having something specific to each piece of hardware.
Such an effort was a Google SoC project, and was completed, but then
that turned into a mess as PHK put up a stink about the implementation
and it was never committed.
