Subject:  transparent proxy support - any interest?
 Date:  Tue, 5 Oct 2004 10:08:16 -0700
I'd like to replace a MikroTik RouterOS box with m0n0wall and the only
remaining missing feature (that I need) is the ability to place a squid
proxy box inside my NAT'd space / internal LAN and have traffic
transparently redirected to the box. If I understand this correctly, this
requires destination NAT rules to transparently map the outbound port 80
requests to the squid box and then the replies from the box back to the
requestor.

Manuel, if this is something you'd consider putting in the image, I think
between a friend and I, we can create the necessary code (he understands
firewall rules inside out and I can fake the PHP coding).

I'm thinking we'd implement this as a simple 'specify web proxy server' page
(similar to the 'enable DNS forwarding' page) where you enable/disable the
feature and specify the address of the proxy server, rather than explicitly
adding Destination NAT rules etc.

BUT, I don't want to make the effort if you (others?) think this is
inappropriate for m0n0wall!

Please let me know :-) And everyone else, if you'd be interested in this,
please chime in - the more support I have, the more likely I am to do it!

cheers, michael

PS: who knows, while I'm in there, I might get inspired and get the MSNTP
time server running too (instead of just the client support we have now)
