I'm working for a small IT company, and have been working with
m0n0wall lately as a possible replacement to some routers we're
currently using.
The only major issue right now is the fact that captive portal
doesn't feed back as much accounting information as we'd like (IP
address, MAC address, etc), and it also doesn't send interim updates
with bandwidth usage. Our users will be remaining logged in for long
periods of time, so interim updates are the current way of handling
their daily bandwidth usage reports & such.
Searching through the lists, it looks like there has been some
progress on this front - I've seen references to patches that add the
requested RADIUS accounting info, but I haven't found anything that
appears to be discussing interim update support. It also appears
that bandwidth tracking on a per-IP basis is in need of some work.
I would be interested in finding out the current state of the captive
portal/RADIUS development, and talking with someone about the work
required to get these features functioning.
