my ftp server works fine off my m0n0wall's nated lan interface.  all I did 
was nat port 21 to my_ftp_server_alias (a private ip) and created the 
coresponding wan rule (tcp,*,*,my_ftp_server_alias,21) also checked "allow 
fragmented packets"
