This sounds very strange and unlikely to me. AFAIK the DiskOnChip is 
just a flash chip with IDE interface, and shouldn't care about the 
filesystem at all. Thus, you do not need VFAT support, just dd the 
desired image to your DiskOnChip and you should be up and running.
