Isn't there an adage about if you can't
solve a problem, change the problem definition?

What about making a key with a small linux distro,
like pebble ( http://www.nycwireless.net/pebble )

Pebble boots in 60 seconds...and is debian linux,
so if there are tools you need that are missing, you can add them.
