What version of m0n0wall did you try?
Does the box that you are running m0n0wall on have atleast two network cards?
Did you follow the on-line documentation for initial configuration?
There are specific steps to setting up the NIC's m0n0wall uses.
I personally am not using crossover cables. Standard CAT5 cables work for me.
