Source of stats.cgi

Hi!
I am still working on porting m0n0 webGUI and phylosophy on my linux box. At 
the moment, I am trying to understand hov to gather interface informations.. 
If I understand well, m0n0wall uses the stats.cgi to gather that kind of 
information.. Is it possible to port it to linux (i.e. looking at the source 
code) or have I to use snmp+mrtg?
