Try leaving the power off on the cable modem for 3-5 minutes? They typically
hold the MAC address in memory for a short time, 5 min should definitely
clear it. What cable provider is it? I've used Comcast and Adelphia with no
problems even decent vpn's without too much changing of ip's.
