My experience with 3com 905 are bad: kind of traffic drops at different
points in time.

Intel Pro100 > no problems and full speed

Now using Broadcom BCM5704C Dual Gigabit Ethernet, ASIC rev. 0x2100 with
great performance and little of no load on the cpu <6% with > 100Mbps
(polling activated)

my experience is:

intel and 3com are the best nics.

intel nics are a bit slower than 3com but use less cpu time. so
depending on
what you want to build use one of these.

speed / performance => 3com

stability / cpu usage => intel
