I like to run ntop on a FreeBSD system at every major LAN I manage. 
Does way more than anything for Windows.  Requires a span port (so a
managed switch), or your LAN to be using a hub, though, as it
passively monitors traffic on the wire to gather far more info than
you can off of SNMP.
