One of the things that not being mentioned in favor of netbsd (or to  
a slightly lesser extent, OpenBSD) is support for non-x86 platforms.

having m0n0wall (or pfsense) on a little Xscale ixp422/425 based box  
with 3-5 Ethernets would be tres cool.

This would tend to argue for smaller images, (rather than larger) as  
well.
