Web interface only from LAN?

Can the web interface only be seen from the LAN side?
I was working with my first install and except for having problems with
remote syslog I was able to connect no problem. The second I got home and
tried to access the WAN IP I was unable to connect... Searched the lists,
but did not find anything.
