When you reboot the net 4501, m0n0wall writes the startup messages to
a temporary log. You can see the start up message from the
Diagnostic\Logs\System tab. You may also consider setting up m0n0wall
to send messages to a syslog server on the lan.

You can also look at the log file by going to the status page
http://{your LAN IP}/status.php

I know this doesn't answer your question, but maybe it will give you some clues.
