Nikola, Your first suggestion can be achieved with the current Dshaper and m0n0wall. Once the daemon is complete, I think that I'll automate the calculation of configuring pipes so that one could set by minute, day, hour, month using simple drop down. **Feature addition: live traffic view for rules based on pipes to show current live usuage and total used is in the planning. **Feature addition: ability to save pipe/rule counters in config.xml on reboots (This would be much better on hdd) **Feature addition: statistics export via snmpd support The other ideas you have expressed would not be something to implement into Dshaper, but m0n0wall itself. I appreciate the feedback and testing, and look forward to hearing more on how dshaper is working for you. If you open up: http://<m0n0_ip>shaper-help.php you will see an example on how to limit bandwidth for period of time with a maximum live bandwidth not to exceed specified. Basically one can set the daily ammount of traffic to be partially limited but the question is, is there a way to limit monthly quantity of traffic, lets say if I want to limit customer download per month to be fixed to 10Gb, and I want to use advanced options from dshaper. My suggestions (as I see our traffic shaping needs :) maybe someone else wants the same): 1. download/upload limits per customer, based on fixed ammount of traffic and time based: - if I set 1Gb/month, customer can use the service at given speed by the dshaper rules -different limits based on network (we use local traffic to our IP range at higher speed then to internet) 2. schedule option 3. I would like to see option to check current client upload/download rate if possible 4. easy allow/disable network access to local network/internet for registered mac/client and default blocking of network access to unregistered macs/clients on lan(now if I do not enter the client mac in our system, if the client manually enters the IP address from our range he gets unlimited speed access to internet, though I block DHCP to unknown clients) 5. email notification of admin/root in case of...strange events/alarms thats all I have for now... If I can be of any help, or donation for this contact me :) Nikola ----- Original Message ----- From: "Junior Gillespie" <jgillespie at t dash speed dot com> To: <m0n0wall at lists dot m0n0 dot ch> Cc: <m0n0wall dash dev at lists dot m0n0 dot ch> Sent: Thursday, January 12, 2006 8:03 PM Subject: [m0n0wall] Traffic Shaping - DShaper Images Everyone, I updated the latest 1.21 m0n0wall images to include Dshaper. DShaper allows for variable bandwidth traffic shaping that can be configured to adjust the size of pipes, depending on traffic volume flowing. This feature allows one to limit amount of bandwidth within a specific time frame. The images are available for testing and feedback at: http://m0n0.paxetman.com/beta/ **Images are NOT digitally signed** DShaper images: + generic-pc-1.21-dshaper-0.1.1.img 5.4M + net45xx-1.21-dshaper-0.1.1.img 4.5M + net48xx-1.21-dshaper-0.1.1.img 4.6M + wrap-1.21-dshaper-0.1.1.img 4.5M + cdrom-1.21-dshaper-0.1.1.iso 5.5M Added file(s): + /bin/dshaper + /usr/local/www/shaper-help.php + /conf/cf/dshaper.info Modified file(s): + /etc/inc/shaper.inc + /usr/local/www/firewall_shaper_pipes.php + /usr/local/www/firewall_shaper_pipes_edit.php Hopefully this weekend or early next week I can complete the daemon. Feedback would be very appreciated.
