They are Ethernet sure but what does MTU have to do with Ethernet? MTU
is a maximum size for an IP packet. 1500 is a default for TCP/IP on
Ethernet devices. He may have some strange PPPOE setup that requires
that MTU, I don't know but why should 1500 be the maximum?
