Setting Up IPSEC Tunnel

I've read several posts about setting up a m0n0wall-to-m0n0wall IPSEC
tunnel. I am a little confused. The m0n0wall doc's say to use some
like:

Phase 1 lifetime 86400 sec
Phase 2 lifetime 28800 sec

I read in another post where this didn't work, but rather

Phase 1 lifetime 86400 sec
phase 2 lifetime 14400 sec

This worked.

Which phse lifetime value needs to be larger ??
