Dial on demand, or not

Hi all,

I have a few locations with DSL, and I have "dial on demand" checked 
with an idle timeout of 0. I was wondering if this is the correct 
setting to maintain a full-time connection, or if it will also maintain 
a constant connection if I leave it unchecked.

I am unclear on how this is supposed to work.
