I know ther have been "issues" with the use of the watchdog...however, it
might be an option to include the watchdog program into the images for the
various platform which support this thing, but DISABLED by default.

That way, whenever some version/installation freezes for no apparent reason
every once in a while, the hapless admin might try to turn on watchdog
support (via a *hidden* configuration setting) as a last resort.

Thoughts?
