Special protocol? You probably think that because most things communicating over Token Ring are old applications that communicate with SNA or some other archaic protocol. But, you can still run IP too. Now, if you want some old app (using SNA, for example) to communicate through Monowall, you'll need something to run DLSW, which encapsulates SNA in TCP/IP. This can be done with Cisco routers, though you'll need one on each end of the connection. This just reminded me of a company that we have dealt with in the past. The techs there always associated SNA with Token Ring and TCP/IP with Ethernet. When we raised the possibility of running SNA over Ethernet, it just about blew their minds... :) -----Original Message----- From: Klaus Stock [mailto:ks at stock dash consulting dot com] Sent: Monday, June 26, 2006 11:51 AM To: m0n0wall at lists dot m0n0 dot ch Subject: Re: [m0n0wall] RE : [m0n0wall] M0n0wall & Token Ring > On Monday 26 June 2006 11:18, Nicolas Bussieres wrote: > > What kind of car dis it ? Musta be the fast version of Token Ring...16MBit...EVERY second! If they have Token Ring, they have most probably already some box which interfaces the whole thing to a TCP/IP. As Token Ring typically uses a...special...protocol, which is incompatible with TCP/IP, a simple plug-in solution is unlikely. Hence the rather costly translators. - Klaus _________________________________________________________ This mail sent using V-webmail - http://www.v-webmail.orgg --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: m0n0wall dash unsubscribe at lists dot m0n0 dot ch For additional commands, e-mail: m0n0wall dash help at lists dot m0n0 dot ch |
