I don't know if this will be any help, but anyway...
I had about the same issue when playing with nics in a compaq SFF EN series.
I had trouble with the onboard (intel) nic, so shut it down in the bios and
added two cheapo realtek's.
After doing this the machine also hanged after unloading the OS and never
rebooted.
Whatever I tried, changing the nic's to other brands, playing with the bios
settings,etc
I couldn't get the machine to reboot properly untill I turned the onboard
nic back on in the bios.
So for now the onboard nic is not deactivated in the bios, but also not in
use by monowall.
This way everything works fine for me.
Sincerely,
