I run both m0n0wall and Astlinux myself. You don't run the on the same
box. Both make significant efforts to target embedded platforms like
the Soekris Net4801, WRAP boards, etc. This running them on two sets of
hardware is likely more energy efficient, silent, etc as using one
older desktop or server class machine.

I have been running Astlinux on a H-P T5700 thin client and find it
even better than using the Soekris hardware. The faster CPU allows for
greater use of G.729 compression. These thin clients can be found for
<$200 on Ebay. I rescued a number of them from going to a high-tech
