Hi all, I have mangled with snmp and m0n0wall, I did following steps but now I'm thinking in which way use snmp into m0n0wall... build a page with a graph about traffic ? or use eternal snmp browser... I still thinking ... Also I thought we can attach LCD to net45xx and display snmp info ... But here the stesp I compiled ucd-snmpd (ucd-snmp-4.2.6), it's an old version of snmpd but enough to do snmp monitoring. I compiled it into my development machine FreeBSD 4.8; to do it we need also openssl(openssl-0.9.7) because snmpv3 need it to do auth and encryption. After that just put necessary files into m0n0 distribution. I think if we work altogether we can do this! Where to start? I also looked into doing the same thing a while back, it seems the only reasonable SNMPD available for FreeBSD is net-snmpd, which is a very large package, I didn't put much time into it though, so it might be possible to cut its size down a lot. It's a shame there isn't a small lightweight SNMPD out there that just pushes interface statistics out (net-snmpd does a lot more than your average person really wants). If I had any C programming skills I would give it a go myself, but unfortunately C programming is something I've never really looked into much. Where to start? I'd be interested in helping out. If you find any direction please let me know and I'll see what I can do. I'll take a peak at some implementations and see what I can dig up this week. --Michael I. ....i'm noticing that every list I join I end up talking to a bunch of michaels.... -----Original Message----- From: Michael Mee To: m0n0wall at lists dot m0n0 dot ch Sent: 8/13/03 12:18 AM Subject: [m0n0wall] anyone added snmp? Where to start? Has anyone added snmp support to their m0n0wall? Any freeBSD experts out there who can suggest where to start and if it might be a complicated exercise? Any idea if it would take up much memory? Motivation: I recently had MikroTik installed on my Soekris and got MRTG running on a webserver to its SNMP support and it produced such great data graphs (e.g. http://www.sdwug.org/mee/64.7.1.228_1.html) that I'd really like to get SNMP on m0n0wall too -- rather than spending US$240 on MikroTik's solution :-). I bet if we could add it m0n0wall style - simple GUI control - then others would do the same thing (getting MRTG going on my cheapo hosting service turned out to be pretty simple). cheers, michael --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: m0n0wall dash unsubscribe at lists dot m0n0 dot ch For additional commands, e-mail: m0n0wall dash help at lists dot m0n0 dot ch --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: m0n0wall dash unsubscribe at lists dot m0n0 dot ch For additional commands, e-mail: m0n0wall dash help at lists dot m0n0 dot ch --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: m0n0wall dash unsubscribe at lists dot m0n0 dot ch For additional commands, e-mail: m0n0wall dash help at lists dot m0n0 dot ch |
