T-1 cards we use are from Sangoma and they support Linux directly ... They
work great .. Check out model 5148 Adapter .. 

Like I said we have one un used and in a box ready for a home ..

FreeBSD supports a couple of T1 cards.  Get on and stuff it in a retired PC.
Then load m0n0wall.  It will easily stay ahead of 1.44Mbps, even on a 486.
