Custom Images with Added Drivers

Does anyone have experience with adding drivers to an existing image? We 
are currently using monowall with some very specific hardware and need 
driver support for the Realtek RTL8110 chipset. How does one go about 
adding drivers for these to an image? Is it possible with monowall? How 
about pfSense? Help!
