What are your hardware specs?
This is likely normal and was expected (unless your hardware is
clearly oversized). This version of FreeBSD requires significantly
more hardware than previous versions, though with SMP systems it's
faster than the older versions. With multi-core CPU's becoming the
norm, OS's have had to make changes to take advantage of SMP. In the
process, uniprocessor systems, especially sub-300 MHz systems, have
seen a significant performance reduction. You'll see your max
throughput drop roughly in half on slower hardware.
