I concur. We already sell m0n0walls on net4501's as a cheaper, more capable alternative to Watchguard's and Netscreens. M0n0 can match nearly all the features of the SOHO models (the tc's in the case of the Watchguards (they are the models WITH vpn capabilities) and obviously leave a lot more room for profit and open-ness for configuration and customization. Is there a market for this? Hell yes there is. Small businesses and remote users who want a network VPN don't know or care what their FW runs. They just want it up and working no matter what. They seldom even know where the telco closet is in most cases without having to think about it. If it WORKS, is cheaper, AND leaves room for profit on the part of the vendor, then not only is there a market, but theres one that's good for the vendor and the customer. I have built many firewalls to protect networks of all sizes, imagine your average home user that can only open Word, he knows nothing about how the computer works but does understand that his Quicken file is vulnerable and wants to protect it. I am currently working on this very thing, to sell a "solution" vs just the parts for the solution. The market is really quite large. :) Dave Kitchens Web Weaver Design Lancentric USA -----Original Message----- From: John Voigt [mailto:1geek at jvoigt dot com] Sent: Sunday, February 01, 2004 4:33 PM To: m0n0wall at id3a dot net; m0n0wall at lists dot m0n0 dot ch Subject: Re: [m0n0wall] m0n0Wall vendor Is there really a market for this? I have a NET4511 I might be convinced to part with. It has 2 wifi cards in it right now (for a total of 4 networks) The 4511 only has 2 ethernet ports. How much would someone be willing to pay over "list" price for the parts to have someone assemble and test?
