In my experience, the most important thing is a good power supply.  I have 
used lots of motherboards, and a cheap power supply was the cause of most of 
my failures.  Now I use the Via EPIA motherboards in mini-itx cases with 
good power.  (Or old Dell GX series SFF desktops)
