A firewall should be a firewall and nothing more (well VPN endpoint
too). The security of the firewall is dependent on the possible threat
vectors present into the application.

Besides, have you looked at http://askozia.com/pbx? Asterisk running
on m0n0BSD. Looks very interesting already.
