Many.  I myself have done it many times.  However, it is usually via a 
VPN.  However, looking back, have you insured that the Windows firewall 
will allow trafic from that subnet on your 2 difficult Windows machines? 
  By default it is set to allow 137,139 and so on from its own subnet only.
