1) Atheros never produced an 802.11b (only) chipset. You must be
thinking of Intersil/Conxexant.
2) 802.11g (and 11a) are now supported by the FreeBSD basae used by
m0n0wall and pfSense. pfSense, at least, ships with support for 11a
and 11g in the GUI.
