wireless hostap transmit / tx rates

Greetings.

It's bee a long while since I've asked a question.

Anyway.

My Setup:
Sokeris Net4501 runninf 1.32
Intersil / Prism 2.5 based 802.11b miniPCI adapter.

The Wireless status shows tx rate as 1mb. What determines that and is there a way to change it?

PS does 1.32 recognize Atheros AR5006 family cards?
