Confused about restoring from pb23

Did pb23 used a different format from V1 for backup/restore?

The backup file I have seems to be a long line where was after installing
v1 a backup of it seems to be a XML file.

Is it possible to restore from pb23 to v1 or will I have to manually re-do
the whole setup? :-(
