Yeah using exec.php I do the following:

ifconfig wi1 inet up 10.23.14.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 ssid
mit.unix.co.nz channel 11 media DS/11Mbps mediaopt hostap

Wicontrol -t 3 doesn't do anything, by default it will be 11, so leave
it.

you could try changing the card's speed by running the following:

wicontrol wi0 -t 3

to try and force the card to DS/11Mbps.
