I basically have the same setup (PC, 2 NICs, 1 MA311, m0n0wall 1.0), and I can't get it to work. I have found the Dell mpci wireless cards in general to be very picky with what access points they work with. It works fine with my Microsoft AP, but kind of picky about everything else. I had an Intel 802.11b mpci card for a while that never had an issue connecting to my m0n0wall with the MA311 in it. So a few months ago I "upgraded" to a Dell 1400 a/b/g mpci card. Won't connect to my m0n0wall for anything, and I don't have another supported PCMCIA card to try in the m0n0wall to see if it is just the Netgear card or if it something about how hostap works that the dell card and drivers despise. Since I have a WG511 PCMCIA card that I can use if I really want to connect to the m0n0wall I can manage, but it's really annoying to have an internal wireless card that doesn't work with my m0n0wall. I am considering a mpci card by some other company that escapes my mind at the moment, but I think if you search around on places like the seattlewireless wiki and you will find something that should work. And to prevent invoking the attacks of the staunch "m0n0wall is just a firewall" groupies (You know I love you guys, :D) I shall repeat what has been said here many times, "The best thing to do is get an external AP and bridge it with an opt interface". I will do that someday, but I just haven't felt like spending the money on it yet. In my case, I am just lazy and too cheap to buy another AP. I know that there are situations where some people don't have the space and they need it to be "on-board" so to speak. Sorry that I can't help you... well, besides saying that I have tried to do the same thing and have not succeeded. Best of luck ;) Jason -----Original Message----- From: Robert Staph [mailto:rstaph at digitalimpreza dot com] Sent: Tuesday, May 18, 2004 6:24 AM To: m0n0wall at lists dot m0n0 dot ch Subject: [m0n0wall] problems connecting dell 1350 mpci laptop to a soekris with netgear ma311 I just bought a Dell that has a built in b/g minipci card (truemobile 1350). I'm having nothing but trouble connecting to my soekris/m0n0wall box that is running a netgear ma311 wireless card in hostap. I have an ascii WEP key typed in, and the m0n0wall AP works with my old laptop with an orinoco PCMCIA card. The Dell will connect to my non-wep linksys AP, but refuses to connect with the soekris/m0n0wall box even with WEP off. I'm going to try the orinoco card in the dell after I send this message. Anyone have any ideas on how to get it running? -Rob --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: m0n0wall dash unsubscribe at lists dot m0n0 dot ch For additional commands, e-mail: m0n0wall dash help at lists dot m0n0 dot ch |
