Adding axe usb driver to 4.9?

I'm looking for help / guidance to adding the axe driver (a USB ethernet
adapter) to the 4.9 kernel. Is this possible? Or are we closer to a 5.x mono
release?

I understand it's in 5.x, so when mono gets to that release I'll be fine,
but I want to get it working now ;-)

Anyone with some C experience could probably help with this - my C is
admittedly limited.
