This is a very bad /general/ advice.
It assumes all providers use PPPoE. Which, I'm afraid to report,
is not the case :(
Your setup will fail when confronted with a provider who uses
PPPoA or even RFC1483 (either bridged or routed). When your
provider uses RFC1483 bridged, you need to asked wether or not
they use DHCP. Oh, ofcourse the mutiplexing (VC or LLC) is also
not standardized :(
