That's my understanding... updatabe firmware an so on opens the possibility
to write installer scripts for modules or even a module manager, which if
accepted could speed / ease the installation of these things...

The initial goal was to make something easier than patching the original
mono over and over and over - you still need to drop your files in the
system, but that's it, which is easier than hacking the menu's which may
have already been hacked for someone else patch before - which would further
complicate the process for more novice users...
