I'll second the idea for an ethernet error counter on the interface status
page. I recently had a problem with intermittent connections that turned out
to be a cabling problem, even though I had replaced the cable twice.

I was just troubleshooting an office where the LAN connection went down and
I had the job of finding out if it was the NIC in the monowall, the cable or
the switch they were using. I noticed at that point that a ethernet error
counter on the interfaces status would have been helpful. Just a thought.
