Not if VLANs were used to seperate the WAN traffic from the LAN traffic.

It's probably more trouble then it's worth to free up one switch port, 
at least until I run out of ports.

Just sit through this NRA meeting Marge, and if  you still
don't think guns are great then we'll argue some more.
