Directly accessing the console?

Is it possible to get a console screen up in m0n0wall directly on the
machine it's installed on? (ie, instead of the menu)

I'd like to use the wicontrol utility to test the signal strength of the
wireless connection, as for some bizarre reason with my friends laptop in
the same location we get a really good connection, but when using m0n0wall
the signal seems really unstable.
