Sounds like you're doing everything right.  I've used the "other"
several times in the past and have never had any issues with it.

Just make sure you're filling in the proper protocol, at least the
"from" port, the LAN IP of the destination machine in the "NAT IP"
box, and the appropriate local port.  Auto add firewall rules is good
to use.

Do your firewall logs show this traffic getting dropped by chance?  

Another possibility is your ISP drops the port you are trying to forward.
