Upgrading

As a general precaution, always backup your configuration file (using the backup/restore facility in the webGUI) before attempting a firmware upgrade.

When upgrading from 1.3x versions to 1.8.1, you need to follow this procedure:

  1. Install version 1.34a first
  2. If you're currently running the 'embedded' image, rename the downloaded file generic-pc-serial-1.8.1.img to embedded-1.8.1.img
  3. Upload the new firmware image

Failure to follow this procedure will result in the firewall rebooting without actually upgrading the firmware.

When upgrading from generic-pc 1.2x, you must install 1.3b7 first before you install a newer version. Other platforms are not affected.

Upgrading to 1.23 from 1.22 should be possible without any specific configuration changes.

When upgrading from 1.2 to 1.21, if you're using the captive portal, make sure that your login form contains the "redirurl" hidden field (even if you're only using HTTP), otherwise it won't work anymore!

Upgrading from 1.11 to 1.2 is possible without having to do any modifications to the configuration – the behavior should be the same (but make sure to check the detailed change log for information on subtle changes/fixes that may affect your setup!).
